Kenny G

Kenny G (Kenneth Bruce Gorelick) was born in Seattle, Washington on June 5, 1956. He took an interest in saxophone when he heard someone perform with the instrument on an American variety show. With the guidance of a local trumpeter, he learned to play the instrument by emulating the sounds he hears on records.
Prior to his being a multi-platinum selling artist and award-winning musician, Kenny’s success in the music industry had not been a walk in the park. In high school, he failed to make it into a jazz band. He was also rejected as music major in Central Washington University but went on to play for a funk band while trying to get a degree in accounting. He eventually became a member of The Jeff Lorber Fusion .

After playing in the band, Kenny went solo, a move that kick-started his career as a musical artist. A major music label signed him as a solo artist after the label’s president heard his rendition of ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’.

Early on, Kenny’s albums had been commercially successful, particularly his second and third albums, which earned platinum status in the United States alone. With over 15 million copies sold, his sixth studio album, Breathless, became the number one best selling instrumental album ever. His first holiday album broke another record by selling over 13 million copies. To date, Kenny has sold more than 50 million album copies.

Aside from being a best-selling musical artist, Kenny had also collaborated with popular artists including Peabo Bryson, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion and Michael Bolton.

Not only commercially successful, Kenny also won the approval of the most prestigious music award-giving body, as he was given the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition for Forever in Love in 1994. In 1997, he also earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records for playing the longest note ever recorded on a saxophone.

On a personal note, Kenny is married to Lyndie Benson and is a doting father of two. He also supports the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Although also a qualified pilot and an avid golfer, Kenny’s love for music remains number one.

Never resting his laurels, Kenny once again captivated his audience with his soulful album Paradise in 2002. After his successful first concert tour in the UK last spring, Kenny G proudly releases “An Evening of Rhythm and Romance”, a brand new DVD that includes his classic tracks ‘Havana’ and ‘G-Bop’. The set list also features cover versions of James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful”, Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” and AWB’s “Pick Up The Pieces. This title will be simultaneously released on Blu-ray.
