Cris Delanno

Cris Delanno was born in Texas, USA but moved back with her parents to Brazil when she was only three years old. She started with music at an early age singing with Rio de Janeiro's Coral Infantil do Teatro Municipal (Children's Choir of the Municipal Theatre).

Being well rounded in music, she studied vocal techniques, improvisation, piano, flute, ballet, theatre and music theory. She has also participated in various projects such as operas. All of which contributed to the refinement of her singing skills.

Cris Delanno is one of the most requested Brazilian singers invited to perform outside her home country. Between 1993 and 1995 she went back to the USA to accept an invitation to perform as a soloist for the African American Unity gospel choir. She has appeared and participated at various music festivals in many territories including the “Roskilde Festival” in Denmark; “North Sea Jazz” in the Netherlands; and “Ronnie Scott Jazz Club” in London.

Up to date, she has recorded and released seven albums; including the latest self-titled album, which features a repertoire of old and new compositions from Brazil to the United States. She has also appeared on albums by electro-bossa group BussaCucaNova as a special guest and lead singer, along with Roberto Menescal. Up to present, she still performs with them.

Her recording debut was with Roberto Menescal’s Ditos e Feitos (1992) where she appeared as a guest artist. In 1995, Cris released her first album Cris em Tom Maior, a tribute to a local Brazilian artist, Tom Jobim. An album produced also by Roberto Menescal.

Her musical expertise has led her to share precious knowledge about the techniques of singing in a book entitled Mais Que Nunca É Preciso Cantar (More Than Ever Is Necessary to Sing) (1999).

Cris Delanno is a singer in tune with the times and an artist who preserves the memory of Brazilian Music.
