ROBIN GIBB

Biography
In terms of legends the Bee Gees rub shoulders with the best of them. Many artists have had success with other writer's songs, and many writers have written for successful artists, but few have been able to provide a catalogue of self penned works which they also perform, this is where the strength of the brother's Gibb comes into it's own.
Yet in addition to success as a group they have also ventured out on their own for solo projects, and once again proved that they can stand alone. After nineteen years, Robin has decided to turn to his solo career, not as a reflex reaction to a split as has happened in many band's over the years, but for the simple reason that he has a body of work that really excites him and feels the time is right for him to release it. With one of the most immediately recognizable vocals in music it will be a welcome return.
Produced by Deacon whose recent credits include K-Ci & JoJo, Mary J Blige, Keith Sweat and Hinda Hicks amongst others, the album will contain tracks written by Robin, Barry and Maurice as well as many songs, which Robin has simply fallen in love with from writers who have sent him tracks over the past year. The album has been produced in London and Los Angeles.
Given that the Bee Gees have always been influenced by soul music and since their earliest work have focused on songs which combine great lyrics with lush melodies, Robin's new album has both of these elements in abundance. The songs he has chosen for the project have had an immediate impact on him and it is this that he feels is a major strength, given that if you love a song on first listen it is likely to have an endearing appeal.
In addition the album features certain tracks which are re-workings of previous Robin songs, which again he has always felt would benefit from a contemporary groove and also which suit the r'n'b flavour of the forthcoming release as well as 'Inseparable' which is written by Robin.
Personal Album Profile
Taking into account the success Robin and his brothers have achieved over the years, selling 110 million records, writing dozens and dozens of hugely successful hits for artists ranging from Dionne Warwick to Celine Dion and Kenny Rogers to Barbra Streisand; as well as continuing to record big selling albums, at a time in their career when many of their peers have resorted to churning out yet another 'best of' project, Robin is a very down to earth star.
Of course he has all the trappings of success but he is also a lover of great pop songs and this is the main focus for his new album project.
Although he is a great knowledge on many subjects including those relating to the more spiritual aspects of life, it is clear that when music is discussed his real passion shines through.
'In terms of the new album' relates Robin 'I am not on a mission, I simply want to create a series of songs that develop a feeling and a mood. An album that offers no more and no less than giving those who buy it a good time'.
A simple and yet refreshing objective given that many of his contemporaries feel it necessary to speak volumes in justification as to why they are still recording music.
'I have always enjoyed writing songs. We have never chosen to be an ongoing gigging band, so it's great for me to include new songs but also some of my own which in a way I am revisiting and reinterpreting' Robin continues.
'I love commercial songs. Songs that you hear on a couple of occasions and fall in love with or cannot wait to hear on the radio again. The ability to write a commercial pop song is an art in itself and one which many take for granted.'
When discussing tracks, which are featured, on the album that he had recorded in the past, he is very much at ease.
'Another lonely night in New York' was a song I always felt deserved more exposure than it got when I originally recorded it. The song has always held certain magic for me even though strangely enough it was not written in New York. Working with the producer, Deacon, who brings his own distinctive r'n'b style to a number of songs was a great experience and we worked very well together.'
To have recorded it all without a major label A&R input also seems to bring Robin some gratification, being a believer in letting one's instincts decide on the power of a melody. The freedom to make his own decisions has been a bi-product, with the giant European Independent label SPV, hearing a handful of initial tracks and spotting the potential. It is a great combination and one that gives Robin the chance to 'express myself in my own way'.
General information relating to solo career
Born 22nd December 1949, on the Isle of Man. Following huge success with his brothers throughout the sixties, Robin first went solo in 1969 scoring a massive hit with the classic, 'Saved by the Bell' which reached number 2 of that year. His family bonds proved too strong so following two further releases he reunited with his brothers again in 1970.
In 1978 he once again tasted solo success this time in the U.S. charts with a song from the movie soundtrack 'Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
"Saved By the Bell" (1969) and "Juliet" (1983) were huge hits across the European mainland. Both hit number 1 in a many countries, with Juliet spending 6 weeks at number one in Germany in 1983, and, Robin even beat Michael Jackson at the peak of his Thriller phenomenon in the same year to many major music polls. Saved By The Bell was a number one in the Benelux and very big in UK as well hitting the number 2 slot. Oh Darling (from Sgt Pepper Soundtrack) - 1978, Help Me (from Times Square OST) - 1980 and Boys Do Fall In Love - 1984 were Robin's states side hits.
Six Years later did it all over again with another solo hit entitled, 'Boys do fall in love'.
